Booking 2017 weddings today

“Booking 2017 weddings today,” read the magazine ad I saw yesterday.

Upon reading that ad, the optimists among us will likely think, “We’re just half way through 2016. No need to rush into these things. I’ve got all the time in the world.”

However, the pessimists among us will think more along the lines of, “Oh my gosh! 2016 is already half over and 2017 will be here before we blink!”

While we tend to embrace optimism and shy away from pessimism, psychologists believe the most successful people are those who are neither overly optimistic nor overly pessimistic, but a healthy combination of both.

Referred to as realism by some, when we consciously take both the good and the bad into account, we place ourselves in the best possible position to deal with a situation or circumstance. After all, being optimistic about something doesn’t miraculously make something good and being pessimistic about something doesn’t automatically make it bad.

So when asked, “Is your glass half full or half empty,” the best answer is always, “Yes.”

“Is 2016 just beginning or almost over?” “Yes.”

“Is 2017 just around the corner or comfortably still in the future?” “Yes.”

“Do I still have time to book Beaufort Photography Co. for my 2017 wedding or might I too late?” “Yes.”

Just as you wouldn’t wait until the last minute to reserve your wedding venue, purchase your fiance’s ring, choose your wedding dress, or secure your caterer, florist, or DJ, don’t you dare wait until the last minute to book your wedding photographer. Booking twelve months in advance is optimal. Booking six months in advance is flirting with disaster. Booking less than six months in advance is living on a wing and a prayer.

Think about it this way – the majority of weddings occur on weekends and the majority of those occur on Saturdays. And there are only 52 weekends a year which means 52 Saturdays. And less than 20 of those are during prime wedding season.
