Though our blog posts usually focus on the bride, today we’re sending a note to the guys that read – flowers are a guy’s best friend.

Considering our unique differences, the attraction between men and women is nothing short of miraculous. Marriage, even at its best, is a challenge.

So what’s the secret? How can some couples stay happily married for 40, 50, or 60 years?

When asked what he thought were the characteristics of a great marriage, author Phil Callaway replied, “A deaf husband and a blind wife.”

Betty Stumpf recently shared her parent’s secret, “My parents, married 45 years, raised 11 children and now enjoy 22 grandchildren. When asked the secret for staying together all that time, my mother replied, ‘Many years ago we made a promise to each other. The first one to pack up and leave had to take all the kids.’”

But guys remember – flowers are a guy’s best friend.

Marriage experts tell us that one of the contributing factors to a lasting, healthy, happy marriage is romance. But romance is the opposite of practical. And this is where we guys usually blow it. How can something impractical be a good thing, we reason with our very small minds?

Women love flowers. Yet we guys usually think, “Why should I invest in something that will be dead in four days?” But remember – flowers are a guy’s best friend. To help you remember the importance of flowers, below is a flower score card:

• If you buy her flowers only when it’s expected: zero points.
• You don’t buy her flowers when it’s expected: minus ten points.
• You buy her flowers as a surprise: five points.
• You give her wild flowers you actually picked yourself: ten points.
• She contracts Lyme disease: minus twenty-five points.

So the next time you’re trying to decide what to get your bride for her birthday or Valentine’s Day or just because, and you think to yourself, “I have no idea what to get her this year. She hasn’t even used the floor sander I got her last year,” remember – flowers are a guy’s best friend.
